Le Crocodile
10:30
Being the angel that I am (get it... cause my name is Angel... harharhar) I decided to spend my two week pay cheque on a very nice dinner for my family. I let my mom decide which restaurant to eat at since the original idea was to take just her out. She told me about this little french restaurant that she ate at with one of her friends called "Le Crocodile".
Le Crocodile is this little french place with $11 valet parking in downtown on Smithe off Burrad. It's pretty hidden actually, you wouldn't really expect to find a restaurant there but it's there. The food was pretty good, a little pricy in my opinion but it is a traditional french fine dining restaurant so I mean.... what do you expect. Anyways, I snapped pictures of some of the foods we ate that night.
sorry about the quality by the way, I'm not about to start lugging around a legit camera just to take pictures of food, so here's the second best thing... my iphone 5s camera ! :D
For some reason, I expected this dish to taste different than it did. The escargot was VERY salty.. to the point where I don't think I could've eaten it without it sitting on the bread. Even on the bread it was a little salty for my palette, but then again, I did also butter the bread so maybe that added to it as well. Anyways, overall it was pretty yummy. The flavour was very rich... it didn't seem like typical garlic butter but it was still good.
Gelée au Sauterne, Toasts
Next was my mom's meal. Being the weight-conscious woman that she is she just had the foie-gras tasting appetizer for dinner. It came with this big chunk of foie-gras and also a foie-gras creme brulee and then of course some toaste to accompany it. She absolutely loved this dish. but due to the richness of the flavour and texture of the foie-gras, she needed to clear her palette a little with coffee after finishing off the whole plate.
When she let me try a piece of the large foie-gras I was very .... confused. It was weird, I couldn't decide whether or not I enjoyed it at all. After several minutes of contemplation, I decided that I liked the taste of it but not the texture. It just felt like I was eating a piece of fat, which is what it basically is. Found out the foie-gras is the fatty liver of a duck. yikes.
The creme brulee was pretty interesting tasting as well. The best way to describe it is to call it a salty creme brulee. That's pretty much what it is... and instead of caramel, you taste foie-gras LOL. I actually enjoyed the taste of this one though... well... at least better than the chunk.
My younger sister got the Prime Rib of Beef with Bordelaise sauce. I didn't really get a taste of her prime rib (because she pretty much devoured that thing like there was no tomorrow...) but the bordelaise sauce... heavenly. It was just absolutely amazing. The perfect amount of thickness and so so rich in flavour. The server described to me that the bordelaise sauce is made of red wine (and some other stuff) and well.... It was absolutely delicious. This dish also came with french fries.
Brunoise de Légumes
Finally, onto my meal. Alright let's start off with the fettuccine. Fresh it was, the texture of it was amazing, perfectly el dente. The lobster meat was soaked with flavour but not over-powering the taste of the lobster itself. Tiger prawns were good but definitely weren't as flavourful as the lobster meat. The sauce.... it definitely wasn't what I expected at all....it was sort of... tart? I think I'm so used to (and in love with) italian cuisine and it's amazing selection of pasta sauces, that this one just didn't taste quite right to me. It was very unique, unlike any sauce I've tried. Don't get me wrong though, it was definitely still delicious, I'm just not sure how to describe how it tastes :b
Tartelette au Citron “Brulée” et Sorbet Fruits de la Passion
Sun Burnt Lemon Tart with Passion Fruit Sorbet
For dessert, I let my little sister decide and she wanted to try the Sun Burnt Lemon Tart with Passion Fruit Sorbet. Best way I can describe how this tastes? A perfect lemon meringue tart. Just like my favorite one from Sweet E's in kerrisdale. But that passion fruit sobet on top.... oh my god. It ties the sour tart together so so well. You just have to try it. You have no idea how amazing it is. If you don't like sour lemony desserts, you won't enjoy it very much. But if you enjoy lemon meringue pies as much as me.... this is a gift sent from heaven.
And then of course at the end of our meal they brought out the signature le Crocodile chocolates. So cute (: I love them. They were good chocolate too.
Here's the address and phone number and website for the restaurant.
If you're looking for a nice place to go for the holiday season and don't mind shelling out a bit on your food, I'd say definitely go check it out. (:
First time in a while that I've gotten my nails done. It just got a little too expensive to keep up with and i had way better things to spend it on (aka food) BUT my manager introduced me to this place right by my work called Modern Nails.
She gets a set of acrylic for around 30 bucks. Usually I do get gel instead of acrylic because everyone tells me how much better it is but I decided to try out acrylic this time since it's so cheap for a new set as well as being only 20 bucks for a fill.
So what it is pretty much is an acrylic base and just plain OPI nail polish on top. My manager said for her nails even though it's normal nail polish, it still lasts her 2 weeks.
I'll let you know how it goes, I'm a little skeptical that they won't chip but we shall see.
Here's a link for the find here page for modern nails.http://findhere.ca/vancouver/modern-nails-broadway
For all my vancouverites go check it out (: I highly recommend them. The address and phone number are both on the link above.
So far so good though, the ladies are lovely, they did exactly what I asked for, they were super efficient, and my nails actually came out better than I imagined !
I'll snap a picture of it in two weeks or so or before I get a fill (:
Until then!
Toodaloo (:

West Elm Market !
00:02
Walking along south Granville with my boothang, and we found this cute little shop called West Elm Market. Being the instagram whore that I am, (yes I said it) I've actually seen quite a few pictures of this place but never really thought to check it out.
The place was beautifully decorated, all stocked with nifty little kitchen supplies and cute decorations. Not to mention the scent of the place when you first walk on... oh man... beauty. It's really quite the delicate little shop and if you haven't already, should most DEFINITELY check it out.
It's actually got two stores on granville just two shops away from each other. One is a smaller store that contains a cafe inside that serves deliciously made drinks and pastries. The other one, the larger store, just sells home goods and other little deco things.
Whilst rummaging through all the amazingly packaged and marketed kitchen goods I found this little trophy. Any one else read the erotic novel Fifty Shades of Grey? Don't deny it, I know you have too. (and loved every second of Ana and Christian's love story). Well FL Fowler here had the great idea of basing an entire cookbook for chicken on the novel. Described as "A young, free-range chicken and a dominating, ravenous chef. A naughty tale of fowl play" how could I have possibly resisted picking this book up and burying my nose in it. But in all honestly though, if you don't mind a little dirty humor and you LOVE cooking (or know someone that fits that description), pick this little dime up for them. Who knows, maybe they'll be so thankful for the hilarious book that you guys get involved in a little foul play yourselves ;)
Here's one of the signs hung up in the store (: I thought it was absolutely adorable. As you can see the shop is decorated perfectly, with the most holiday themed complimentary colours. It felt so homely and warm and just... nice. It was all just so nice.
Also picked up some yummy drinks from their cafe. I got the peppermint mocha to celebrate the festive spirit, and yogi got the cafe au lait. I loved my drink, but his was a little bitter for my taste :S he loved it tho apparently (yuck)
Went to check out their other store afterwards and saw these little gems (: I personally love snowglobes are these are right up my alley. They had some other really cool stuff too like wooden apple keyboards and things made out of mercury glass. If I had the extra cash (and a place to decorate) I would definitely drop by here.
But yeah, that pretty much completes this little adventure (: end you guys off with a picture of beautiful raincity. When we have nice days they're usually absolutely gorgeous. Gotta love this place sometimes.

Review : Justfab Jade Bag
12:37
So since i've really cut down on my makeup spending, but I still wanna be reviewing stuff for this blog, I've decided I'm gunna review my justfab purchase !
I do purchase from justfab often-ish, (this is my 4th purchase i think) so might as well let you guys now how the quality and everything is.
So the first review is on the Justfab Jade bag. I got this bag mainly because it reminded me a lot of the Prada Saffiano tote which I can not afford for the life of me. It has the same general layout... big middle pouch in the middle, two zippered compartments on the sides. It's a tote but it's also got a detachable longer strap for if you wanted to wear it cross body.
Here's what the bag looks like on the website.
(also here's the link if you want to check it out http://www.justfab.ca/index.cfm?action=shop.viewproduct&master_product_id=538069&kw=jade&psrc=site_search)
I don't have too many complaints on this bag.. I mean for 40 bucks I wasnt expecting some prada level quality but I can't lie when I say that the picture on the website might be a little deceiving.
First things first, the bag in the picture on the website looks much more structured than it really is. The material that it's actually made out of is actually quite a softer material... not something I was expecting. I expected the bag to atleast be able to stand up without slouching, but that was not the case. This isn't too big of a problem because once you fill it up enough, you can get it to stand pretty easily. But if you were expecting a hard and stiff material like the prada one, you might be a little alarmed.
Another problem that comes with every bag that i've gotten from justfab so far is that when they ship the bag, they don't stuff the bag. The actually fold and flatten the bag which gives it a couple of creases here and there. That's also partially the reason why it can't stand by itself. You can definitely stuff the bag to take out the creases but just know that when you get it.. the bag will be creased.
I've seen some really good quality bags come from justfab but I can't say that this is one of them. I mean for the price, it's pretty good but obviously the quality could be slightly better . I would say this bag is comparable to forever 21 quality.
okay now let's talk about the pros.
Although the quality may not be the best ever, this bag doesn't look cheap. I mean of course, if you examine it up close it does look like it's a cheaper material, but just looking at it overall, the bag looks nice.
Also, having the same amount of pockets as the Prada Saffiano, it's a very versatile bag. The bag can carry a lot of things in it's middle compartment as well as it's two side pockets. However, because it is a softer material of a bag, you've gotta be careful when you fill it up not to put anything too big inside; It will look like something is jutting out of the bag. Most things fit okay in the middle pocket though.
The sizing for this bag is very spacious, the middle pocket is actually big enough to carry a 15" Macbook pro. The side pockets won't fit a 15" though, because the opening, where the zippers are, is a little smaller than the opening of the middle. But you're in luck if you mostly just carry an ipad/tablet around, or even a 13" Macbook. Both these things will fit in this bag easily and you will still have plenty of room for everything else you need to carry (makeup bag, wallet, phone, keys, a book even? etc. )
Overall, I think for 40 dollars, this bag isn't bad at all. Although I wouldn't necessary go to forever 21 and spend 40 dollars on a bag, I definitely don't regret buying this bag. There are bags with much better quality on JustFab but generally speaking, this one definitely isn't one of the worst ones either.
Rating out of ten? probably a 7. It's an average bag. You could do better, but you could definitely do a lot worst.
Hope this was helpful (: and hope you guys are having an amazing day.
Here's my school trying to get into the holiday spirit (: makes me like it a little more. Just a little tho.
