MY FIRST (AND HOPEFULLY LAST) CAR ACCIDENT

00:41

So very recently I got into a car accident. I don't know why, but lately my luck with everything has just been going down hill. Hopefully this is as bad as the luck goes, but back to the accident.
I thought I would write this just as a memory of what happened. Yes it was a terrible experience that I do not ever want to experience again, but at the end of the day, I'm okay. the other party is okay, and it's a story to tell the grand kids.

The story.
So I was driving from my place to richmond to go find my bestfriend. Planning to have a nice study night. It was raining, and as I was crossing the bridge to Richmond, I saw the aftermath of a different accident. I drive a Jeep wrangler sport for anyone that was wondering, and she does not handle rainy roads well. So being EXTRA CAUTIOUS (side note: why do bad things happen when you're being the most careful..) and driving 55km/hr I slowly made my way to my friend's place.
So I was making my way to a big intersection that was about maybe 15 blocks from her place, and the light turns green so I continued my constant speed. I'm headed East-bound and there are two cars in the left turn lane heading West-bound. The first car turns when I am about 100 meters away from the intersection, so I kept driving 55km/hr; didn't speed up nor slow down. As I was entering the intersection, the second car pulls up into the intersection and slows down. Thinking nothing of it (because they slowed down) I continued my way through the intersection.
When I was about 3/4 the way through the intersection the second car turns left and collides head on into my car. I had no time to think, much less brake or swerve out of the way. I hear the collision and can feel that my car is spinning out.
After that, all I could remember is opening up my eyes, seeing smoke and hearing white noise and nothing else. Slowly my hearing came back to me and the first thing I noticed was heavy breathing. In my head I got scared and I asked myself WHO is that. Takes another second or two before it registered into my head that the heavy breathing was coming from me. I started waving smoke out of my face and I felt the airbag from my steering wheel. Noticing that it was getting harder to breathe, I reached blindly for my door handle, opened it up, undid my seat belt and ending up falling out of my car.
As I got up, my car started to roll back words and so I ran back to it, got inside, and put it in park as well as pulled the air brake. A lot of smoke was coming out of the areas where the air bags deployed, and it smelt like something was burning. I quickly evacuated everything important from it and left it, afraid that something was on fire. I found afterwards that the smoke is normal because it just meant that my radiator inside the car had been broken.
Shortly after that, a witness called the police. The first to come was two firetrucks. They asked us a bunch of questions, and made sure both cars were in a safe state. Next the ambulance came, and made sure the both of us (me and the other party) was okay. The police finally came after a little while, and took down my information. After that, my friends drove me back to their place.

I know the story sounds extremely dramatic, but I swear to god that's exactly how I remembered it. It felt like the whole scene was straight out of a movie, the way that it played out. Like I said, it is definitely not something I want to EVER experience again, but it's definitely a story I will remember for the rest of my life.
The aftermath sucks ass though. I found out I got a minor concussion the day after, and it's been nearly a week and my neck and back are still sore and strained. I get headaches easily, and I have problems focusing when reading. I saw my doctor two days ago, and I will be going to physio as well as getting massages soon. It is VERY much needed at this point.

I hate how much this has inconvenienced my life. I can't work due to a wrist injury, I can't study because I can't concentrate.. it is a mess. I honestly just want this whole thing to be over and done with so I can just continue on with my life.

Guys... remember to drive safely. It's retarded however, because if it's one thing this accident has taught me, it's that no matter how cautious you are with your driving, you can't control how other people drive. But please, drive safe. Although I am okay, this was definitely a traumatizing experience to go through.

I'll leave you guys with this picture of my baby all bruised and battered ):

  1. I'm so sorry to hear about that frightening experience, Angel. I'm sure you were terrified, but I'm genuinely glad that you only sustained minor injuries from that event. Car accidents can happen at any given moment. The road may seem friendly, but there are other drivers who aren't as focused on the road as you are, so it's always best to be ten times more careful when driving. Anyway, I hope you're faring better these days. Thanks for sharing that! Take care always!

  2. A safety warning never goes to waste. Showing us a picture of your baby dented and damaged will surely make an impression. Getting into a needless accident because one couldn’t be bothered to drive safely is just detrimental for everyone, more so to those who might get dragged in due to that person’s actions. Anyway, I also hope that this would be your last car accident ever. Take care!
